Yavadunam Sutra

Share:

The "Yavadunam" sutra gives us a lightning-fast way to find the square of any number that is close to a power of 10.

The "Deficiency" Rule 📐

Left Part: Add the deviation (deficiency or surplus) to the number.

Right Part: Square the deviation.

Example: Squaring 98

  1. Find Deviation: Base is 100. 98 is 2 less than 100. Deviation is -2.
  2. Left Part: 98 + (-2) = 96.
  3. Right Part: (-2)² = 4. Base 100 has two zeros, so we write 04.
  4. Combine: The answer is 9604.

📲The Squaring Calculator
