Ekadhikena Purvena Sutra

Share:

Let's learn a wonderfully simple and elegant sutra: "Ekadhikena Purvena," which means "By one more than the one before." This rule is famous for being the fastest way to square any number that ends in 5.

The "One More" Rule ☝️

Left Part: Take the digit(s) *before* the 5 and multiply it by the next whole number (one more than itself).

Right Part: This is always 25 (because 5 × 5 = 25).

Example: Square 75! (75 × 75)

  1. Find the Left Part: The digit before 5 is 7. "One more" is 8. So, 7×8=567 \times 8 = 56.
  2. Find the Right Part: The last digit is 5, so the right part is 5×5=255 \times 5 = 25.
  3. Combine Them: Place the left and right parts together. The answer is 5625.
